AWAR Activities reflect the interests and talents of our
membership. In the spirit of our non-profit, volunteer association, our
Activities are proposed and organized by our members. The AWAR Board
encourages new activities which are approved/promoted by the Board through the
Fact Forum/Activities Chair Suzanne McMillen. For further information on
each particular Activity.
For the club season 2008-2009 the following Activities are
offered:

ABC of Drawing - Based
on the famous book by Betty Edwards, Drawing on the Right side of the
Brain, this is the class for those who don't know how to draw and think
they can't learn. Course fee. Nancy Watkins is the coordinator.

Art Club - Artists of all
media - both professional and amateur - discuss making art in Rome, share
information and resources, give feedback on work (if desired) and provide
inspiration and support. Claudia Lazzarini is the coordinator.

Bridge - Meets weekly to
play bridge. Beginners are encouraged to participate as the more advanced
players are willing to teach. Tina Grasso is the coordinator.

Ceramics
- Meets weekly in EUR to become familiar with clay techniques, making pots
and glazing. Course fee. Ana Fitzpatrick is the coordinator.

 | Cinema/Gourmet - Meets
monthly. Participants view an early, English language film and then dine on
great food. Wendy Holloway is the coordinator.

 | Creative Group
- Meets twice monthly to share talents in scapbooking, photography,
clay modeling, knitting, cross stitching, painting, book binding, etc.

Diet Buddies -
Meets to support weight loss.

Ex Libris - Meets
monthly to discuss current book from a reading list selected by group.
Candy Biamonti is the coordinator.

Fact Forum - AWAR's
longest continuing activity group meets monthly to explore the culture and
history of Italy. Suzanne McMillen is the Chair.

Genealogy Workshop -
Meets monthly near Largo Argentina to learn how and to assist in finding
one's ancestors. Susan Fiorentino is the coordinator.

Great Writers Series -
Meets to read the works of great writers and poets under
the guidance of Professor Rory Stuart. Course fee. Deborah Shayne is the coordinator.

Hiking - Meets weekly
for full-day hikes into the roman countryside. This activity is for strong
experienced hikers. Joanne Miale is the
coordinator.

Investment Roundtable -
This group meets to discuss market manipulation and various stocks. No money
is involved.

Mutsaers is the coordinator.

Italian Conversation Group
- Meets twice per week to learn and improve one's knowledge of the Italian
language. All levels invited to join.

coordinator.

Music Group - The
group for those musically inclined whether with your voice or an instrument.
Co-cordinators are Ana Fitzpatrick and Evelyn Bellar.

Kids Place: Meets weekly
for play, seasonally for parties/events, monthly to dine out and particpates
in USA Girl Scouts. There
are several groups within Kids Place:
Babies and Toddlers (BAT) -

coordinators.
Mom's Night
Out - Carol Vaitkevicius is the coordinator.
Teach Me English - Zoe Milak and Carol Vaitkevicius are the
coordinators. USA Girl Scouts Overseas - Rome -
Millie Kneeland is the coordinator.

Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild
- Stitches friendship quilts and blocks to benefit AWAR and FAWCO projects,
along with personal projects. Meets weekly on Fridays with a light lunch
served.

Opera Appreciation -
Meets seasonally to discuss upcoming opera performances with Italian Maestro
Joe Giardina. Course fee. Mignonne Del Piero is the coordinator.

Rome Happenings
- Meets to visit an
exhibit, revisit a favorite church or discover other events. Candy Biamonti is the coordinator.

Scrabble
- Meets one evening per month to play the classic game
- Scrabble - in either Italian or
English, plus members bring along with a dish for a buffet dinner. Aviva
Seidler is the coordinator

Wine Appreciation Group
- This group will hone their wine and chesse appreciation for a specific
region's wines and cheeses. Beth Sanders is the coordinator.
