Susan Fiorentino

 

 

Susan Fiorentino is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the Association's web site and electronic communication systems. This communication system facilitates communication among members and provides a channel for messages to committee chairs and executive officers. Currently, there are some 20 closed mail lists, personal mail boxes and forwarding addresses used by our membership, plus a PHP Bulletin Board on our private site. Our web site acts as an introduction to our Association. Susan's one-year, non-voting, appointed, volunteer term expires in June 2008.

Art, theater, dance and choreography were Susan's passions until she came to Rome in 1984 on a study-abroad program, Tech Rome, with Louisiana Tech University. She met Andrea and married in 1985. Two years later this San Antonio, Texas gal found herself living within walking distance of the ancient Roman Forum. Susan holds a BFA from Southern Methodist University and an MA from the University of Iowa, both in painting and drawing.

Susan's volunteer experiences with AWAR include: AWAR Forum Editor (36 issues); FAWCO Representative; Nominating Committee, Web Master since 1998; current Coordinator of Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild, the Genealogy Workshop and the Ambassador Lecture Series, along with numerous support roles through the years. Since 1992, Susan feels privileged to have served with fifteen of sixteen AWAR Presidents and their respective Boards in either elected or appointed board positions. Susan is a member of and volunteers with the Centro Studi Americani in their Library assisting Italian graduate students with their thesis research on U.S. History and Culture. She is proud to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) where she serves the National Vice Chairmen's Association on the Executive Board as Second Vice President.  She is assisting in setting up a new DAR Chapter in Rome. She is Treasurer of Republicans Abroad Italy and both a member of Quilt Italia - Italy's national quilt association and Quilt e Dintorni di Roma - Rome's regional quilt association. Susan enjoys drawing, sewing, quilting and costume design.
