Welcome to AWAR - The American Women's Association of Rome
Founded in 1955 by then American Ambassador Claire Booth Luce, the American Women's Association of Rome (AWAR) is a non-political, non-sectarian and not-for-profit organization. AWAR aims to engage its members in cultural exhibitions, monthly social activities and community service projects. Our volunteer programs support various charities in Rome.
Our members come from all over the world - 65% from North America and 35% from other countries. Many members are new to Rome while others have been living here permanently for many years; the common tie is that we are all united by our goals of caring about our community and remaining connected with family and friends back home.
Volunteering for one of our AWAR-supported chairites helps to strenghten our connections in the community and also helps to make new friends in our new home.
Our interactive Resources list is always available for our members to source a multitude of ideas and suggestions from within our membership that can make your time in the Eternal City all the more pleasurable.
