Opera Appreciation

Mignonne Del Piero, Coordinator

Those AWAR members interested in opera have been meeting for over 20 years in the home of Maestro Joe Giardina in an historic district of Rome.

The dates of the meetings are variable, as the group meets in the morning after the dress rehearsal of the opera currently being presented at Rome's Teatro dell'Opera. However, the time of the meetings, 10:00 a.m., does not vary!

The meetings begin with a brief coffee and the discussion of the current opera follows. The Maestro highlights the many aspects of the work at hand with musical illustrations and amusing personal anecdotes. Frequently, Maestro Joe delights the group with one of his surprise guests, usually one of the cast, who provides further insights into the opera and who answers questions from the group.

This is not a class where you will learn to sing opera, but where you will learn what opera is all about!

Additional info is available through the AWAR office.
