FAWCO Friendship Quilt 2006A friend is a gift you give yourself
Many thanks to everyone who contributed blocks to the 2005 quilt and to all the other nine FAWCO Friendship Quilts! Have you had a chance to see them all? Visit www.fawco.org and follow the links. Your hard work, creativity and friendship have made a lot of people happy. And most importantly, raised a lot of money for the Foundation's projects. So in honor of friendship, let's make Friendship Stars! Many thanks to Pinky Niggit, AWC Zurich for this great idea. This is a super-simple block, so don't be afraid to participate, even it you're a beginner. Take a peek at the illustration:
It's just a nine-patch. See the star? This is not a full-size drawing (and it's not quite drawn to scale): each of the 9 little squares should measure 2.5 inches before you sew them together to make a 6.5 inch block. Sign your name or your club's name or both, in the center! And if your points end up spinning in the other direction - it's OK. Please, pretty please, use 100% cotton, fabric, no poly-blends, no lace, no beads, no buttons. You can use a permanent ink pen (Pigma) or embroidery for the signature. ------- Note: This drawing shows how the shape will look after the small blocks are sewn together. It does not show the seam allowance of 1/4 inch all around! AWAR members, please send your completed blocks by September 15, 2005 to: Susan Fiorentino Blocks that arrive in Rome by September 15, will be displayed at AWAR's opening fall event. AWAR members, please contact Susan Fiorentino if you need fabric to make your block. If you need a bit more time to stitch your block, then please send your block by October 10, 2005 to: Roberta Zollner Please make as many stars as you like! |
