How Does Your FAWCO Garden Grow?

Each year AWAR and Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild members participate in a friendship quilt sponsored by The FAWCO Foundation. The FAWCO Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas www.fawco.org. AWAR is one of 78 member clubs worldwide, representing some 17,000 American women abroad.  

The theme for 2005 friendship quilt is How Does your FAWCO Garden Grow? Our finished six-inch squares, based on this theme, join with other individual's and club's squares to make a fabric garden. Roberta Zöllner, is our master FAWCO quilt-maker and Nimble Thimble member who lives in Germany. Roberta will stitch together all the donated squares. Then she'll quilt it for the annual FAWCO 2005 spring conference. If you're lucky with raffles, you might bring home the 2005 FAWCO quilt! 

How Does Your FAWCO Garden Grow? is a tenth anniversary quilt to benefit others! Funds earned from all the nine previous FAWCO friendship quilts have been used for scholarship grants for AWAR/FAWCO members and their children and for grant projects centered on women's and children's concerns worldwide.  Since the grants program was developed seven years ago, The FAWCO Foundation has given nearly $100,000 in grants to projects diligently serving the needs of women and children in mainly developing nations. When members of Nimble Thimble have a challenge, it's amazing what a six-inch square of fabric, imagination and stitching can do! Nimble Thimble members met the challenge and stitched twelve squares this year. Squares were stitched by Vivian Weaver, Amy Erickson-Ledda, Pat Wolf, Amalia Seiders, Patrizia Rossini (two squares!), Maria Conti, Maria Grazia Topai, Peggy Becker, Mia Rowan, Ivana Schiano and Susan Fiorentino.  Please place your mouse on each square, click to make it larger and see all the details in each precious square. Embellishments include buttons, traditional embroidery and silk ribbon embroidery.
